Founder Stories

Erwin Nanyaro
Hailing from Tanzania, Erwin Nanyaro is a dedicated climate advocate with a passion for creating sustainable futures. Their journey into climate action began with a transformative experience working on the landmark CLIFT project, a collaborative initiative by Mzumbe University and the University of Copenhagen. This project focused on smart climate agriculture and involved extensive data collection across Tanzania’s Iringa, Morogoro, and Arusha regions.
While engaging with smallholder farmers, Erwin Nanyaro witnessed firsthand the devastating vulnerabilities they face due to climate impacts. The stark contrast between urban and rural resilience levels, shaped by unequal infrastructure priorities, ignited a deep commitment to champion climate justice. Inspired by the resilience of these communities, Erwin Nanyaro founded The Green Neighborhood to bridge these gaps and create tangible solutions for both urban and rural populations.
As the founder of The Green Neighborhood, Erwin Nanyaro leads a passionate team dedicated to empowering communities through education, capacity building, and actionable climate initiatives. Under their leadership, the organization has become a beacon of hope, fostering collaboration and inspiring individuals to take urgent action against climate change.
With a vision of creating a world where people and nature thrive together, Erwin Nanyaro has turned their academic expertise and field experience into a powerful platform for change. Their work continues to inspire individuals and organizations worldwide to join hands in building a sustainable and inclusive future.
